Quick answer: The India vs New Zealand ODI series 2026 has five matches from November 4 to November 15. Every game starts at 7:30 AM IST (3 PM in New Zealand). Shubman Gill captains India in the first three ODIs and Shreyas Iyer in the last two. In India, watch on the Sony Sports Network or stream on SonyLIV.

The big news: on October 31 the BCCI added Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Auqib Nabi to India's squad for the first three ODIs. He had only been named for the fourth and fifth games. So he's now with the team for the whole series, as per the BCCI squad update.

Below you'll find the full schedule, both of India's squads, New Zealand's squads, and what to watch for.

India vs New Zealand ODI 2026 schedule and timings

All five are day-night games. New Zealand is 7.5 hours ahead of India in November, so a 3 PM local start means breakfast-time cricket in India.

India ODI squad 2026 for New Zealand: full team list

India picked two squads. The reason is the calendar: the first Test starts in Wellington on November 19, just four days after the last ODI. Some Test regulars leave after the third ODI to train with the red ball.

India squad for 1st, 2nd and 3rd ODIs (updated October 31)

Shubman Gill (captain), Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Nitish Kumar Reddy (1st ODI only), Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Anshul Kamboj, Gurnoor Brar, Auqib Nabi.

India squad for 4th and 5th ODIs

Shreyas Iyer (captain), Ishan Kishan (vice-captain, wicketkeeper), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Kumar Kushagra (wicketkeeper), Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, Yash Thakur, Auqib Nabi.

What stands out

  • Rohit and Kohli play all five. Both have stepped away from Tests and T20Is, so ODIs are now the only place to watch them in an India shirt. They stay for the full series while the Test group leaves early.
  • Two captains in one series. Gill leads the first three games, then Iyer takes over. Iyer has just led the T20I side on this same tour.
  • No Jasprit Bumrah. He isn't in either squad, with the focus on the Test series that follows.
  • Prasidh Krishna is out of the updated list. He was in the original squad subject to fitness. The BCCI's October 31 list for the first three ODIs no longer includes him, and Nabi is in.
  • Young pace options. Anshul Kamboj, Gurnoor Brar, Yash Thakur and Nabi give the selectors a look at new seamers ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Who is Auqib Nabi?

Auqib Nabi is a right-arm fast bowler from Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir, and the most talked-about name in Indian domestic cricket this year.

  • Record Ranji season: 60 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 12.65 in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy, as CricTracker reported. Only two other seamers had taken 60 or more in a single Ranji season.
  • A title for J&K: He was the tournament's top wicket-taker and Player of the Tournament as Jammu and Kashmir won their first-ever Ranji Trophy.
  • Two big seasons in a row: 104 wickets across the 2024-25 and 2025-26 Ranji seasons.
  • Test history: In August 2026 he replaced the injured Bumrah in India's Test squad for Sri Lanka, becoming the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir named in an India Test squad, as reported by Deccan Herald.
  • IPL: He has played for Delhi Capitals.

Why he fits New Zealand: Nabi is a swing bowler who hits a tight length. With a new ball at Eden Park or Seddon Park, under cloud and lights, that matters more than raw pace. Being in the squad doesn't guarantee a debut, but with Bumrah absent, India have room for a new-ball option.

New Zealand ODI squads

New Zealand also split their squad. Mitchell Santner captains both groups.

1st to 3rd ODIs: Mitchell Santner (captain), Devon Conway, Tom Latham, Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Nathan Smith, Jacob Duffy, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Blair Tickner.

4th and 5th ODIs: Mitchell Santner (captain), Finn Allen, Mitchell Hay, Nick Kelly, Tim Seifert, Will Young, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Kristian Clarke, Jacob Duffy, Lockie Ferguson, Matthew Fisher, Blair Tickner.

Rachin Ravindra is back after the shoulder injury that kept him out of the T20Is. Finn Allen and Lockie Ferguson return to ODI cricket in the final two games.

Form guide: who has the edge?

Don't assume India start as clear favourites. In January 2026, New Zealand won an ODI series in India for the first time ever. India's recent ODI record in New Zealand is also mixed: they won 4-1 there in 2019, then lost 3-0 a year later.

Conditions are the reason. New Zealand pitches give the seamers bounce and early movement, Wellington's wind changes how you bowl from each end, and Eden Park's short straight boundaries reward big hitting. Expect India's top order of Rohit, Gill and Kohli to decide the first three games. The last two, with a much younger side on both teams, are harder to call.

After the ODIs: the Test series

  • 1st Test: November 19 to 23, Basin Reserve, Wellington
  • 2nd Test: November 27 to December 1, Hagley Oval, Christchurch

Both are part of the World Test Championship. India haven't won a Test series in New Zealand since 2009, which is why the selectors are protecting their Test group now. For the domestic red-ball picture, see our Ranji Trophy 2026-27 guide.

Fan checklist

  1. Set alarms for 7:15 AM IST on November 4, 7, 10, 13 and 15.
  2. Check your SonyLIV plan or Sony Sports channel pack is active before November 4.
  3. Watch the toss: at these venues, captains often choose to bowl first under cloud cover.
  4. Ignore free-stream links and APK files.
