What personal data we collect and why we collect it

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the information shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string made from your email address (also called hash) can be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar Service Privacy Policy is available here: after approval of your comment, your profile picture will be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

When uploading images to the website, avoid images with built-in location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download all location data and remove images from the website.

If you leave a comment on our site, you can opt-in to store your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience, so you don’t have to re-enter your details when you make another comment. These cookies will last a year.

When you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal information and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set a number of cookies to store your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last two days, and screen options cookies last one year. Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may contain embedded content (eg videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in exactly the same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect information about you, use cookies, insert additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged into that website.

Who we share your data with
How long do we keep your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and the metadata will be stored indefinitely. This is so that we can automatically recognize and approve any follow-up comments instead of keeping them in a moderate row.

For users who register on our website (if applicable), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also view and edit that information.

What rights do you have on your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal information we hold about you, including any information you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal information we have about you. This does not include data that we need to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitors’ comments can be checked through an automated spam detection service.
